The importance of preselling
The most important thing you can do to increase your affiliate commissions is to presell properly.
First, what is preselling? Preselling is both an art and a science. And it’s function is to prepare your reader to buy something. Then you send them to the site that sells what you’ve prepared them for. When done correctly, your reader will not even notice.
In a nutshell, you provide value. And give them a link to the product you’re preselling. We’ll get into how to do it correctly in a minute. But before we do, you need to know why it’s so important. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.
- Preselling creates trust – Once you have your readers’ trust, they will click your links more readily. And the more clicks you get the more sales you’ll make.
- Preselling is disarming – Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. This means they are more open to what you’re saying. And your intention is conveyed more easily.
- It preps them to buy – Now they’re open to hearing what you’re telling them. Being open means, they are open to everything you give them. This includes the sales website you send them to! Being open to a sales message is what it means being in a buying mood.
- Your commissions go up – Now your reader arrives at the sales page in a buying mood. With the guard down and trusting your recommendation. This dramatically boosts your sales rate!
- It increases customer satisfaction – Plus, they feel they’ve made the buying decision on their own. Versus being pitched or convinced. So they are happier with their purchase.
- Preselling increases your bottom line – Satisfied customers are less like to refund. Less refunds means more affiliate money stays in your pocket.
The need to presell is clear. You make more money. And increase your customer satisfaction. That’s a clear win-win.
OK, so how do you do it?
You’ve learned the importance of preselling. So, hopefully you’ve decided to start preselling. So, let’s talk about how to make it work. As I mentioned earlier, it’s both an art and a science.
Part 1 – The art of it
The first step is in getting your readers to trust you and open up. This can only be accomplished by providing actual value in the information you’re presenting. Now, providing enough info to be useful, but still making them want more – that’s the art of it. That is, they have to be wanting more when you refer them to the product sales page for the product you’re trying to sell. Plus they’re not guarded, so they’re more open and likely to purchase the product.
Part 2 – the Science
There’s also a specific formula you need to follow.
The first is how you present the information. You need to know where you’re going before you begin. Your end goal is to make a sale of the product you’re preselling. How can providing information accomplish this goal? One way is to give them enough info to whet the appetite, but not enough to satisfy it. The second way is to provide all the information and let your reader discover how hard it is to actually implement it. Either way, the product sales page solves the problem.
Next, you have to use “convert linking” methods. Instead you link directly to the product sales page. This increases your clicks. But, without your affiliate link, how do you get credit? Well, that’s part of the science of this whole process. You use an image tag to cookie your reader before they leave your site.
The next trick is to hyperlink specific words and phrases inside the content of the article you’re providing. Hyperlinked words are clicked more than anything else. Plus, if you link on relevant words, it only makes sense to click on there.
What you have now is a super powerful system for affiliate marketing success.
OK, here’s the not-so-good news:
It’s extremely difficult to do this correctly. Let’s look at the skills required to pull it off: Good content. First and foremost, you have to be able to write a great article that provides valuable information. This means you have to be able to write well, and have enough knowledge to be useful. Strategic writing. Yes, you must providing useful content. But, you also need to know how to present the information in a way that give value to the reader. And somehow also make them want to learn more. Or make the information so overwhelming they realize they can’t do it on their own.
Choosing your products. After that you have to figure out which products you want to promote. Even if you can pull off writing and great article. You’ve wasted all your effort if the product doesn’t sell well.
Techy stuff. One of the keys to this system is using “covert cookies” for the tracking. This is fairly simple – you use a 1 X 1 image and set the “source” to your affiliate link. (Just don’t mess it up. Otherwise, you won’t get credit for your sales.)

Now you know exactly how to presell effectively. Preselling properly will boost your affiliate profits up to 500%! It’s absolutely critical to do this every time – and to do it correctly. Don’t wait another minute. Put in the effort to reap the greater rewards.
